In order to participate in ski races with Midwest Masters, you should be aware of the rules in order to understand how race days and races themselves work. Please see below for a summary, or click here to view full rules document.

Before the Race

Register online and pay your race fee before the posted start time.

Bring and wear your assigned bib at all times while racing.

Lost bibs may require a replacement fee.

Race Day Basics

Races follow US Ski & Snowboard Masters rules, with Midwest Masters–specific adjustments.

Safety comes first. Officials may adjust run orders, reset courses, or cancel races if conditions are unsafe.

If a race is canceled, your entry fee becomes a credit for a future race (valid for one year).

Race Formats

Races are run by Age Class (age and gender) or Ability Class (skill level).

Ability Classes are discipline-specific (you may differ between SL and GS).

Racers under 18 participate as forerunners and are not eligible for season awards.

Starts & Run Order

Older age classes generally run first.

Women start before men within each class.

Second runs are usually seeded based on first-run results.

Late starts always run at the end—no exceptions.

Accommodations are made for disabled athletes.

Scoring & Awards

Place points (World Cup–style) are the primary basis for season awards.

Additional stats tracked include starts, finishes, clean runs, and race results.

A points-based system accounts for field strength, allowing fair comparison across venues.

Course Rules

Inspect the course properly and ski safely in the race arena.

Missing a gate, stopping during a hike, or losing a ski too early may result in a DNF or DSQ.

Courses are set and approved by certified officials with safety and consistency as top priorities.

Masters Nationals

Any racer with a full-season US Alpine Masters license may compete—no regional quota required.
